Appreciating Teachers

I have come to be more appreciative and sympathetic for teachers since I entered the Education major. Growing up I had some really great teachers who inspired me to continue my education and whom I still speak with today. These teachers were good listeners, mentors, and friends. If a majority of students in the class were stressed or bombarded with assignments from other classes, they would push back the next lesson a day because they knew we wouldn't be completely focused to learn new material. Great teachers are personable and caring towards their students. There are always going to be some teachers who aren't good or don't try to connect with their students, but for the most part I think teachers handle all their required tasks pretty well. Teachers are given so many expectations and tasks and there is just not enough time. Since I have switched my major over to Education I have decided that teaching is not what I want to do, but I do not consider it a waste of my time because I have gotten a different perspective of what it takes to be a teacher. I give teachers so much more credit because teaching is definitely one of the hardest jobs if not the hardest and no one would be here today without them.

This article on MSN gives twenty-one reasons to appreciate a teacher. It was pretty spot on from my previous experiences in the classroom and I like the humor. I think all of us could remember that one teacher who made a difference in our lives like Dr. Glassman said on Wednesday. Here is the link to that article. http://now.msn.com/underappreciated-teachers-teachers-are-underpaid-undervalued-and-still-make-a-difference

  1. That article was really great! I also keep in contact with some awesome teachers I had in high school and I wish I knew where some of my elementary and middle school teachers were so I could keep in contact with them too. I think I had more great teachers than I had bad teachers and for others they may not have been that lucky. I wish teachers were given more credit for everything they do!
