The movie on Monday in class, "To Sir, With Love", Shows how many people viewed teachers back several years ago. The way the teacher had turned the students around to become good students and they all began to like the teacher. That's how all students should view their teachers. Students should look to their teacher, not only has an educator, but someone that is there for them to make them a better person for the big world. The movie had many great points that we saw in class, that you do not see today in schools. The teacher knew these students were a terrible class, he still came in everyday with the right mindset of having them learn. The way he handled the class each day was perfect, it shown that you can control a class by talking to them and sometimes raising his voice.
If a teacher respects his students, he will then earn the respect from his students. Students are able to weed out the good from the bad teachers. All students are able to sense that fear or unsure feeling from a teacher that doesnt have control. When students sense that they take control of the class and that teacher will have the hardest time gaining that control and respect back. In the movie, the teacher was there for the students to get them ready for when they went into the big world in a few weeks. He stood up for his class after they began to respect him. Although it took longer for the respect from all the students, he still defended each one as his own.
In the article I found at http://www.questia.com/library/education/classroom-management/teacher-student-relationship, it states that it is very important to establish the correct relationship between the student and teacher for success in the years. If the teacher doesn't form a good relationship with the students, the students will never form to respect the teacher and will never want to learn from them. Its also important to not form a too close of a relationship, because it will cause many problems further down the road.
As teachers many people need to see that, teachers are there to help the students become a better person. That it is not the easiest job to do with the students not always agreeing with the teacher. The way our nation views teachers is much less important of person. We need to change that in the nation because there are many great teachers out there and they are not being recognized for the greatness they have done.
I loved the quote you made about how, "if a teacher respects his students, he will then earn the respect from his students." I also really admired the work Sir Mark did with his class. He treated them the way he would want to be treated, as an adult. By doing this, he gave them the encouragement they desperately needed to become a better person and to do something meaningful with their life. He prepared them for the real world by teaching them life lessons and how to properly handle their problems. They ended up making positive changes in both their speech and clothing. In the end, his students actually enjoyed coming to class and treated him as a mentor/friend rather than a "teacher". I think all teachers should follow this example as well because I too agree that one of the most important things a teacher needs to do is form a healthy relationship with their students.
