Learning Relationships
Lately in class, we have been discussing if its the subject interest the students or if it is the teacher that gets the student inspired. Personally, I believe that teachers have a huge responsibility to get students inspired and willing to learn. It takes a special kind of person to be able to connect with one or even multiple students and inspire them to learn. I can think of my most influential teacher from high school and I respect all the effort and time he put into his lectures. He was the one that made that class interesting and I believe I learned more from having that connection with the teacher. I look forward to challenging myself in my career to inspire my students and put the "joy" back into learning for them. I look forward to being a teacher and the responsibility that comes with it. My mom works in the school system and I love seeing little kids running up to her and saying hi to her and tell her that they are excited for school. I want to put that excitement into kids and have them get excited for school each day. I have found an article about a student and parent who wrote about how inspiring her teacher was. This article says how many activities they did and how she was excited about going to school each and everyday. This teacher is just like the teacher I was to become. http://cjonline.com/news/2013-08-11/teachers-inspiring-students-year-after-year.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you that teachers are the ones who have the responsibility to get students inspired and willing to learn. Obviously, if a student is intrested in a subject they will want to learn more, but what happens when the person teaching that subject is boring, unenthusiastic, and doesn't seem to show any interest in that subject? Will the student gain as much knowledge as they hoped? Will they be ashamed to be more excited than the one who has the answers? Teachers need to think about how much (or how little) they are supporting their students with their energy in the classroom.
It takes someone special to become a great teacher and make those connections with students. Those students will remember that teacher and will learn most likely better cause they care for the teacher. For the teacher, I agree that they like the feeling of having those students run up to them and always feeling happy and saying hi. These are the kind of teachers that are needed in the future.
