Maybe Charter Schools Aren't So Bad?

I honestly had very little knowledge about the subject of charter schools and was really glad that we discussed this topic in class. It's an important subject for future educators like us to know about. I didn't know how negatively perceived charter schools were in the eyes of the general public but after watching the videos in class, I can see why they would be enraged. I didn't like the fact that students were enrolled based off of a lottery and how they could easily fire teachers who did not meet the school's expectations. However, despite all that, parents of charter school students seem to be completely satisfied and happy with the education their kids are receiving. So I decided to look into it more.

On this online forum (http://www.debate.org/opinions/are-charter-schools-a-good-idea) 86% of the participants said yes to charter schools. After reading some of the comments, it seems like almost all of them were either students of charter school themselves or have children enrolled in them. The comments they were saying were very similar to the ones we've heard in class. Parents say that their children are doing better academically and are more motivated to learn. Charter schools provide a more comfortable learning environment and pay more attention to their students due to the smaller class size. They provide more options for classes and are very flexible.

After reading all these comments, I thought to myself, "maybe charter schools aren't so bad after all?" Even now I still have mixed feelings about charter schools, but as long as the students and parents are happy, then I would have to say that charter schools are doing a good job. I feel like their intentions are genuine and admirable, but somehow along the way the system became corrupt and unfair. Charter schools are getting way to competitive and becoming oblivious to the people they are letting down.
