More Information on How to Evaluate a Teacher..

On Wednesday we analyzed our group ideas of how to evaluate a teacher and determine a good one from a bad one. After class on Monday many of us felt we had come up with a great system to evaluate teachers, however we learned otherwise in class when Dr. Glassman read some of them aloud and questioned us about why we chose to do things certain ways. It basically showed us that finding a system to analyze a teacher is a lot harder than it looks and so many other factors have to be taken into account. We talked about what really qualifies a teacher to be a good teacher and it seems like when we come up with ideas there is always something that just doesn't seem to work right. When I was taking a closer look at OTES, it really does seem to be heading in the right direction. While it may seem very confusing and have many steps to it, it is trying to combine many aspects such as performance and how the class is growing.  It is hard for any one evaluation system to include everything and this one seems to try to incorporate a great deal of things. I do agree that one thing that would improve it would be paying teachers more if they are performing well and doing what they should be doing because this would be like a reward. I posted an article from the Ohio Department of Education that outlines exactly what it is again just for a refresher.
