After discussing education with many of my parents friends I have started to be very intimidated as they tell me how ODE is significantly decreasing the desire to become a teacher/remain a teacher, in the state of Ohio. From the SLOs, vendor approved data to show growth, and now the RIMPs (which many districts are implementing to make sure the students show growth), they want to quit their jobs. These RIMPs, require more parental meetings a year than an IEP (3). Does that make sense? None! If students show growth from where they started a particular unit to the end, can't that be good enough? They are requiring teachers to take time away from teaching to analyze the data; that tells a little about the students, teachers don't already know. Apparently they missed the lesson on negative effects retention has on students. It's time to wake up and realize that they are screwing over the educational system in your state. Get it together! (
A RIMP stands for Reading Improvement Plan)
