One of the many things that gets overlooked when talking about charter schools are the students that attend these schools that are considered special needs. These kids are often forgotten about in the discussion of whether charter schools are more beneficial or not. When taking into consideration what the better choice is for special needs students we have to remember that for each student they are going to be different, so what may be the best for one student could be the complete opposite for another. This article talks about how children with special needs in charter schools differ from children with special needs in traditional schools.

The article discusses the gap that exists between children with special needs in charter schools or traditional schools. The one thing that I found interesting, although should be common sense is that there is a gap in education level because most parents of children with special needs will not choose for their student to go to a charter school. Also, many students who start early at charter schools are not tested for disabilities early on because charter schools do not like the label of a disability.More often than not as students with disabilities grow through school, more often than not they switch from charter schools to traditional schools. Although there seems to be a large gap in children with special needs in charter schools and in traditional schools, most people do not take into account the switching of schools and difference in numbers of students. This article outlines the differences and why this gap occurs.
