Teacher evaluation:
Open door polices
·
Whenever the principle would like to come in
they can, but they don’t have to evaluate the teacher every time.
Regular assessments of individual students in different
subject areas so that student growth can be monitored
·
Exit slips and individualized progress
·
Making the evaluations more regular but less
intimidating
Including teachers in evaluation
·
Talking with teachers about what was good and
what they could work on
Relationships between teachers and principles
Relationships between teachers in different grade levels
·
So teachers can discuss what the kids should
keep working on and how they did on the tests from the past year.
I liked that you brought up the idea of having teachers evaluate the teachers from the year before. It may be a good way for teachers to see what really stuck with the students and what topics might need more work to make them memorable. I might be concerned about these being used as part of an evaluation because it might be challenging from a personal level to critique people you work closely with but I think if they were given anonymously and not used as a factor in hiring/firing or wage changes, I would think this would be a very useful tool for teachers.
