People on Welfare Get Paid More Than A Teacher!!! SAAYY WHAT?

I found this website, http://www.statisticbrain.com/welfare-statistics/, very depressing!  This fact sheet stated that welfare recipients in 8 states are paid more than the average teacher.  This makes me think of the topic we discussed a few weeks ago about how teachers are not appreciated.  I don't know why teachers, the people who build a foundation for children's academic development, are downgraded.  People who literally do nothing are getting paid more in these states than the people who are trying to build our future.   It seems very hypocritical to have politicians in our country emphasize the need to improve our world standing in education but are not paying the people who are attempting to build a better education system.  Wouldn't you think a better pay would maybe give teachers an incentive to work harder?  I am not sure what can be done about this but this makes me feel better about deciding on not becoming a teacher.  I feel like there is little support for teachers, especially seeing how the government in some states are offering more money to someone who isn't trying to work.

  1. Wow this is insane to me!! I do still want to be a teacher and this article infuriates me. I agree that is would not only give teachers more incentive to do better but it would also bring better teachers to schools. Just like people work there butts off to become doctors and lawyers they would do the same to become a teacher! I feel like this goes back to what we were talking about in class and that is bribing. Isn't that how we get great doctors, bribe them with more money? Why can't this happen with teachers.

  2. The article and blog you posted makes me absolutely furious! As if welfare isn't an already sticky subject with some people, hearing statistics like this has to make it worse. Teachers are extremely under appreciated in society, and this is just another reason why. Teachers have one of the most difficult professions and spend hours upon hours preparing their lessons, and then they do not even get paid what a welfare recipient gets paid? I'm not saying that there are not people out there who are deserving of welfare because there are people out there who do work, but still need the money. However, it's the people who are not working and do not try to work that should not be receiving more money than a teacher, who spends their time inside and outside the classroom working. If our country wants to improve the education system and it's teachers as it always says, they need to take some of that money and pay teachers a little bit more or hire in teachers who are more qualified for the position, even if that means paying them more money than other teachers.

  3. This only proves more about how our education does view our teachers. This is ridiculous that they receive that much money when teachers are getting less than them. The nation wonders why many teachers also become discouraged, I mean I guess why keep teaching it you do not like it, I mean there are other ridiculous things that make much more. This nation needs to straighten these things out if they ever want to turn education around in this nation.
