Bullying Happens in College Too

When we think of bullying we often think of bigger kids picking on smaller kids on the playground, or cliques of middle school girls ganging up on a less popular girl. We often forget that bullying happens at all ages to all types of people.

I'm sure many of you are aware of the Rutgers football coach being accused of bullying his players. (http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-football/24243680/former-rutgers-player-says-he-was-bullied-by-coach) This is the second coach at Rutgers to be accused of bullying their players. This past spring Mike Rice was fired for bullying his students. Being a buckeye we idolize our athletes,  so I think it's hard for us to imagine this being an issue. What we often forget is it doesn't matter who you are, what you are, how popular you are, anyone can be bullied. I think as a society we need to stop associating bullying happening to outcasts or the not-so-popular kid. It happens to everyone, even college football players.

  1. Alison, I really like your blog post I have never really thought about this before like you said. It is hard to imagine a big football player getting bullied by their coach. When you think about it though they want to play and do well so they are going to listen to what their coach is saying and that can be hard if the coach is picking on them. I think to people don't always take it as seriously because they figure as we get older we can stand up and take care of ourselves but it still effects everyone no matter how old you are.
