So Columbus City Schools just had a couple of levies on the ballot for Tuesday's election. The days leading up to the election I started getting notices telling me how to vote. The first notice I received was on my apartment door from the resident manager of the apartment complex. The paper had scans of newspaper clippings that all talked about how Columbus City Schools don't need the money and they have been wasting the money that they do have. The apartment managers wrote on the notice that our rent would go up $10-15 a month if the levies passed. Without directly telling us to vote no, the apartment complex got their point across that they did not support the school levies. So even though I was very angry to receive this notice, I let it go. I do not think it is right for my apartment company to bombard me with notices about voting.
Then, the day before the election I got an email from the resident manager... I have never gotten an email from them before!! In the email it told us to read a letter from some guy (who apparently knows all about apartments and taxes). I read the letter and it said "VOTE NO FOR ISSUES 50 & 51". It continued to say "it isn't a vote against education, it's a vote against wasteful, greedy spending". It was hard for me to read this and realize that people actually feel so strongly against bettering schools. I was so angry, so then I sent an email back saying that I was going to vote yes in the election and that I don't appreciate getting notices telling me how to vote. I also mentioned that people should stop being so selfish and worrying if their rent is going to go up a whopping $10 a month and think about the kids at Columbus City Schools. Well, the owners of the apartments emailed back... with a very rude email. They told me that my thought of the money helping the kids was just an "idea" and that everyone can have their own opinion. He didn't understand that I am fine with people having their own opinion, I just don't want them to keep sending me notices telling me what mine should be.
What do you guys think about this? Should an apartment complex be able to send out multiple notices telling you how to vote? I know that people can put up signs and campaign in public, but I just found it out of place and unprofessional for it to be my apartment complex.
By the way, the levies did not pass. Here is a recap about the levies and results.
