Is That The Solution?

As the commercial came on the screen I couldn't decide if I was in agreement or against the proposition. Starting by showing numerous kids in schools being bullied and picked on, the ending was shocking. In the last few seconds, a narrator came on the screen and basically stated the "solution" to bullying. She talked about how many kids are being violently bullied and that we need to stop it. Instead, she suggest her online schooling program. Basically, the idea being to take the kids out of school if they're being bullied. Make them stay home and go to school on a computer all day is the solution her. I couldn't disagree more. Personally, I view school as a place were you learn so much that's not in the classroom. Plus, did you ever think that by just taking those kids out and making them choose the alternate route that the bully's win? It's hard for me to say that kids being bullied wouldn't want this type of education, because I honestly don't know, they might. I was just shocked to find that instead of punishing the bullies, it's almost like we're punishing the kids being bullied. To me, this is not the solution and I don't know what it is yet, but it has got to be better than this.

I completely agree with you. To take a kid out of school and put them in an online class because they are being bullied is not the answer. We should not teach our children to run away from our problems. If you are at your dream job and someone is bullying you, does that mean you quit and apply for a job where you sit behind a computer screen all day? No, you either confront the person or shrug it off. Also, there is still a possibilty that the child will be cyberbullied in online classes.. then do we teach them from a little box with no connection to the world? No. It is not the child's fault so they should not have to be punished and suffer from what others are doing to them.

    1. I agree with both of you, especially Lindsay. Taking online classes just deprives the child of making connections with other people and making new friends. Running away from your problems is never a good option to choose and most certainly does not solve anything. Online classes might not even provide the child with the education they need and the child is left living their life full of regret. They will continue to follow this lifestyle and just avoid their conflicts instead of dealing with them head on. Obtaining confidence and courage is an important quality children need to have in order to live their life to the fullest.

  2. I agree with everyone too. Taking a child out of school is the worst possible thing that could happen the child being bullied. It teaches the child that you can just run away from your problems and I think doing this will hurt the child's confidence self esteem. The child being bullied will likely also become lonely and will likely blame themselves for what happened. They shouldn't hide and go to school online, but to confront the problem straight on and move on with their life and try to make the best out of the situation.
